Our weekly rate is built for uncertain timelines
The problem with renting when your car's in the shop: you don't know if it'll be 4 days or 4 weeks. Chain daily rates can stack up fast, so a two-week repair often runs into four figures. And once your repair timeline slips, you're locked into whatever rate you started with.
Our weekly rate is structured specifically for repair-wait scenarios — significantly lower effective daily cost than the chains. We also have a special monthly rate for the longer repairs that you anticipate will take 4+ weeks.
For exact pricing on your dates, use the quote tool on our homepage — rates vary by season and current inventory.
Why Hawaii repairs take longer than mainland timelines
1. Mainland parts shipping eats 1-3 weeks
Most replacement parts aren't stocked in Honolulu warehouses. When your mechanic orders a transmission, AC compressor, catalytic converter, or even a specific suspension part, it's usually coming from Los Angeles, Seattle, or a mainland parts distributor. Standard shipping to Oahu is 7-14 days. Expedited is 3-5 days if it's available at all. And with post-2020 supply chain issues, some parts still take 3-4 weeks.
2. Oahu shops are booked out
Dealer service departments — Servco Toyota, Cutter Ford, JN Chevrolet, Tony Honda, Pflueger Honda, Aloha Kia, BMW of Honolulu, Lexus of Honolulu and Pearl City, and the rest — are frequently booked 7-10 days out for diagnostic appointments alone. Independent shops in Kapolei, Waipahu, Pearl City, Aiea, and Honolulu often have similar backlogs. Then the actual work takes another few days once parts arrive.
3. Specialty repairs need specific shops
Transmission rebuilds, diesel work, European car service, hybrid battery replacement — these go to specialty shops that serve the whole island from one or two locations. Wait lists stretch.
4. Aloha Time ≠ Mainland Time
We love Hawaii, but sometimes "I'll get to it next week" really does mean next week. Buffer your timeline expectations accordingly. Renting flex-weekly gives you breathing room.
Common "car in the shop" scenarios we handle
Transmission rebuild
4+ weeks typical. Parts from mainland, specialty labor required.
AC compressor replacement
Critical in Hawaii heat. Compressor + refrigerant parts often backordered.
Engine work
Head gasket, timing belt, rebuild — can stretch 3+ weeks with parts delays.
Electrical diagnostic
Tricky intermittent issues that take time to isolate and fix.
Brake & suspension overhaul
Multiple parts often needed. One backordered part holds everything up.
Body work + mechanical combined
When a repair requires both shops sequentially.
Recall service
Dealer-only work with OEM parts. Timelines depend on part availability.
Routine service gone sideways
Your oil change turned into "we need to replace your water pump." Now what?

Why this beats rideshare or daily chain rentals
If your mechanic says "probably a week, maybe three," daily rentals or Uber/Lyft commutes compound fast — many customers who start with a daily rental end up paying four figures by the time their car is done. Our weekly rate gives you a reliable, budget-friendly option from day one with the option to extend if the shop timeline slips.
The flexible extension is the whole point
- Start with a week — lock in the weekly rate up front.
- Call to extend anytime — "Shop says two more weeks, can I keep it?" — done. No new paperwork.
What you'll need to rent
- Valid physical driver's license (all drivers)
- Debit or credit card in your name (we accept bank-issued debit cards, unlike most chains)
- Proof of auto insurance — your personal policy works, which means no CDW fee if you have full coverage with small deductibles
- An approximate repair timeline from your mechanic (even "1-3 weeks" is fine)
Your mechanic didn't give you a date. Your rental shouldn't lock you in, either.
Submit a quote with your approximate repair window — we'll confirm availability and pickup within the hour.
