Why most Oahu rental companies say no to debit
Airport chains and most Turo hosts want a credit card because it lets them place a large authorization hold and chase damage after the fact. Debit-card renters at the chains usually face extra ID checks, proof-of-return-flight rules, and holds of $500 or more, or a flat "credit card only" policy. That shuts out a lot of perfectly good renters: young drivers, military members who just PCS'd, travel nurses between assignments, and locals who simply don't use credit cards.
How it works with us
- Debit or credit card in the renter's name. Bank-issued Visa or Mastercard debit is fine; no Venmo, Cashapp, Chime, or other app-based cards.
- Insurance instead of a huge hold. Bring personal auto insurance with collision and a deductible of $1,000 or less and there's no CDW fee. Don't have it? Our CDW is $15.70/day. If your credit card includes rental car coverage (see our non exhaustive list), you only need to submit a valid insurance card with your name on it. Digital copies accepted.
- The deposit and rental are charged to your card when you book; the exact amount is on your quote before you pay anything.
- Drivers 18+, with a valid U.S. driver's license.

Can I rent a car in Hawaii with a debit card?
Yes. Baba Car Rentals in Ewa Beach accepts bank-issued (no Venmo, Cashapp, Chime, etc.) debit cards in the renter's name. A credit card is not required.

Is there a big hold on my debit card?
